The war of drones
Authors: Patiuk Daryna, Rodolphe Oberle

The paradox of the Russian war on Ukraine is that it resembles World War I and a Sci-Fi movie at a time: during trench warfare, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs, drones) perform reconnaissance, monitor enemy movement by day and night, direct artillery fire, and directly target enemy vehicles and troops.[1] Ukrainian naval drones helped destroy a quarter and incapacitated half of the Russian Black Sea Fleet,[2] while terrestrial drones and combat robots carry out demining, demolition or combat rescue tasks. The war of drones is the new arms race, where AI and radio-electronic warfare will define the winner.
